LIAISON INTERPRETING

As an English liaison interpreter based in Milan, I help businesses run successful events and meetings where speakers of different languages can communicate with each other.

What is liaison interpreting?

Liaison — or business — interpreting is a service where an interpreter translates a speaker’s words into another language shortly after they speak. When the other speaker has their turn, the interpreter will then translate what they say into the other language.

Unlike consecutive translation, speech shifts are much shorter. A business interpreter doesn’t usually need to take too many notes, although they might jot down some names and figures.

Liaison interpreting is perfect for trade shows, business meetings, doctor’s appointments and meetings at public services offices.

What equipment will I need for business interpreting services?

You can benefit from my English business interpreting services in-person in Milan, Italy or abroad, or you can choose my remote interpreting option. Face-to-face liaison interpreting can take place in any setting, and you don’t need any equipment.

If you choose me as your remote event translator, you’ll need to use an online platform so everyone can communicate. Since you won’t need to set up booths and channels as you would for simultaneous translation, you can use free platforms such as Google Meet.

Will I need to book one or two B2B interpreters?

Liaison interpreting is usually performed by a single interpreter and a second interpreter is not usually required. If the speaking shifts are very long, then you may need consecutive translation services. I’ll need to take a break every now and again to rest and continue to provide high-quality translation.

What types of events can benefit from a liaison interpreter?

An English, Italian and Spanish business interpreter can help ensure a variety of events are a success including:

  • Trade shows and trade fairs
  • Business meetings and B2B negotiations
  • Medical appointments
  • Public office appointments
  • Workshops
  • Attorney-client meetings
  • And many more.

An English event translator is perfect for events involving exchanges and short turns of speech between two people or a small group. Liaison translation is not suitable for large audiences.

If you’re unsure which interpreting mode is the best for your event, feel free to contact me for a free quote. I’ll guide you through the options to help you choose the service that is the best match for you and your event!

How much does your liaison interpreting service cost?

Don’t worry about costs! You’ll receive a personalized, no-obligation quote tailored to your event.

I don’t have a one-size-fits-all rate. My rates are based on the type of event you’re organizing, the language combination, the number of participants, which interpreting service you require, the location and time of your event, necessary equipment and more.

As an English event translator located in Milan, my rates are fully aligned with the Italian market, and I guarantee you excellent value for money.

Is your liaison interpreting service right for my event?

My English, Italian and Spanish liaison interpreting services are for you if:

  • You’re exhibiting at a trade show or attending as a buyer, are organizing a business meeting, have ongoing negotiations with Italian or Spanish-speaking business partners or are attending a medical appointment or meeting in a public office where your native language is not spoken.

  • Not all your Italian- or Spanish-speaking business partners can speak English well and you don’t want to exclude anyone.
  • Some of your business partners speak English fairly well but are concerned about not appearing professional if they struggle to express themselves.
  • Some, but not all, of the conversation participants understand English well. You want everyone to be able to participate equally in your event and don’t want to exclude anyone.
  • You have very specific goals. Although some of those taking part in the conversation know English, you don’t want to risk miscommunication or any linguistic or cultural mishaps.
  • You speak Spanish or Italian quite well and are attending a high-stakes appointment with doctors, psychologists, or lawyers. You don’t want to miss anything they say and want to be free to express yourself in your native language without putting too much pressure on yourself.
  • Most of your event participants don’t have a good command of English but you’re counting on your event going smoothly.
